Description of Palau

Palau is officially known as the Republic of Palau. It is an island located on the Oceania continent, i.e., in the western Pacific Ocean. It is in nature a part of the Micronesia. The capital city of Palau is Ngerulmud.


Palau Island was settled originally in 2nd or 3rd millennia BC, i.e., mostly by the migrants of Indonesia or Philippines. It was first sighted by the Europeans in the years 1522 and it was originally discovered by them in 1969.  The island has a population of pygmy or Negrito people.

Later after few years, the island is made as a part of Spanish East Indies in the year 1885. The British traders were the most prominent visitors of the Palau in the 18th century. After that the Spanish influence is expanded in the 19th century. In 1944, the United States captured this Palau from the Japan.

After that, in 1979 the four of the Trust Territory districts have been joined and formed Federated States of Micronesia.

In 2001, Palau passed its first anti-money laundering and bank regulation laws.


The Palau Island is located in Northern and Eastern islands in the coastline North Pacific Ocean. The extreme points of the Palau region are Mount Ngerchelchuus of Babeldaob in high and North Pacific Ocean in low.


The official languages of Palau are English, Palauan. Japanese is the recognized language and the regional languages include Tobian and Sensorless.

The Palau Island has a tropical climate. The mean temperature of the island is 82 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a heavy rainfall through the year in this island. Though there is a rainfall in between the moths of July and October, there is more sunshine and the average humidity would be 82%.
