Nigeria’s official name is the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Its official language is English. The country’s political capital is Abuja, the economic one is Lagos. Nigeria is a country with a low level of income; according to its population, is also the largest African country with rich natural potential. It is known for being an oil exporter. From 1861 to 1960, Nigeria was one of the colonies of Great Britain, but in 1960 gained its independence.
Nigeria is a multiparty republic. The country’s territory is divided into 36 states and one Federal Capital Territory. There are 85 thousand servicemen.
Nigeria is a country located in the south-western coastal Africa. It shares borders with such countries as Niger, Benin, Cameroon, and Chad. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean. Through the country flow such rivers as Niger, Sokoto, and others. Also there is a part of the Lake Chad situated in Nigeria.
According to its population, Nigeria is the largest country of Africa. It is home for 149 million people. The average population density is of 167 people per square kilometer. The annual growth is of 2.5%. There are about 200 tribes and nations in the country, the largest of which are Hausa and Fulani (in the north), and Yoruba (in the south-west). The official language is English, the calendar - Gregorian. Religion: 50% - Islam, 40% - Christianity, 10% - Traditional African beliefs.
