Moutsamoudou - description of the city:
The main town of the island of Anjouan is Moutsamoudou, which lies in the north-west coast, on the shore of a large Baia d`Anzhuan. It is the capital and main seaport of the island and its second function performs a city for almost a thousands years- before the era of Arab sultans Moutsamoudou harbor, controlled by local leaders «Fanny». hosted ships from all over Asia.
Today, this picturesque town, which is famous for its architectural sights in the style of the Swahili-Shirazi, many buildings of the XVII century with carved doors, steep streets, mosques and a citadel. The city is considered as one of the best ports for cruise ships and yachts.
The town itself consists essentially of only two parallel streets, connected by maze of lanes, alleys, shops and store stairs. Around the mosque Mosqa du Vendredi (XVII century) is the Sultan`s Palace and within walking distance from the city center-waterfalls Dziankundre.
