Malaysia
Description of Malaysia
Malaysia is a country situated in the heart of Southeast Asia. It consists of 13 states and three federal territories. Malaysia's population is about 28 million people and there are more than sixty different ethnic groups. The largest groups in number are the Malays, Chinese and Indians.
The two parts of Malaysia are separated from each other by the South China Sea, which immensely separates the two landscape areas of the east and the west of Malaysia, with its coastal plains rising to densely forested hills and mountains, the highest of which are Kinabalu peak with a height of 4095.2 meters (13 435.7 feet) on the island of Borneo. The local climate is close to the equatorial and characterized by the annual southwest (from April to October) and northeast (from October to February) monsoon winds. The Strait of Malacca, located between Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula, is perhaps the most important sea rout in the world.
The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is the main economic and political center of the country. Kuala Lumpur, the administrative center of the state of Selangor, is located in the south-west of the Malay Peninsula. Other major cities of Malaysia are the port city of Georgetown, Johor Bahru, Klang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Seremban, Kuantan, Ipoh, and Petaling Jaya.
