Madrid - description of the city:
Madrid is the capital of the country and one of the most beautiful cities in the world with enormous cultural and artistic heritage. It naturally combines modern business centers and medieval architecture, the best night clubs in Europe, the largest outlets, beautiful parks and, of course, a lot of museums.
Climate in Madrid:
The climate of the region is continental. Madrid is characterized by short and very hot summers and long and cool winters with frequent rains. Spring and autumn are short-term and are the most favorable seasons for visiting the Spanish capital.
Entertainment, excursions and places of interest in Madrid:
The center of Madrid and all Spain is the Puerta del Sol with three statues and ancient Mail Office. Surrounded by colonnades, the central square, Plaza Mayor, served in the Middle Age as a market area, the site of bullfights and of burnings at the stake. Currently, its most notable buildings are Casa de la Panaderia (the baker’s house), whose facade is decorated with frescoes, and Casa de la Carniceria (the butcher's house), where now municipal services are situated. In the center of the square stands the equestrian statue of Philip III. On the east side of the Plaza Mayor is the Plaza de la Provincia, where the Palace of Santa Cruz is located, which is now home to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. Nearby is the picturesque area of the Villa with a beautiful town hall building, which was a place of the Consistory, and a prison of La Villa.
Also there is a large number of museums and galleries in the capital of Spain: in addition to the Prado, we should mention the National Archaeological Museum of Spain, the National Museum Reina Sofia, the famous Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Museum of the Americas, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, the Museum of Anthropology and Medicine, the Museum of Spanish pharmaceutics and other great collections, and also more than twenty art galleries.
