Bayamon - description of the city:
Bayamon is a city in Puerto Rico, as a part of United States. It is located in the north of the island. It occupies a part of the fertile valley, where coffee, sugar cane, tobacco, and grapefruit grow. In fact, the settlement is like a satellite of San Juan and it is among the most rapidly developing cities. One of the its popular sites is a science park, on the territory of which are museums, a zoo, children`s rides, observation deck. There also can be seen an exhibition of NASA rockets. At the intersection of five roads the city hall rises. To get into the hall possible through a special passage extending over a busy highway.
The city was founded on May 22h in 1772th by Juan Ramirez Arellano. According the one version, the name of the city comes from the name of the local Indian chief Bahamon. According the another version the city got a name of the name of the local river- Bayamongo, (Indian version of the name of this river), which is located in the vicinity of the city.
In Bayamon are open universities. The most famous university, which is named after the city, was built in 1970th. The ancient building is Cathedral of Santa Cruz, which attracts the attention by its architectural elements of the facade. The building dating back to the 1772 year, known as a monument of history and architecture. In Bayamon the sugar production is developed. Among the modern enterprises are factories of the production of cast iron, bricks, automobile perts, textiles, and tools.
