Vienna

Vienna - description of the city:

Vienna is usually visited by opera lovers, fans of the museums and just loving couples. It is considered one of the most fascinating places in Europe. It is a city of magnificent palaces, grand squares, and picturesque streets, surrounded by a green necklace of the Vienna Woods.

Vienna has two thousand years of history. Thanks to art galleries, concert halls and the famous Vienna Opera House , the city became the cultural capital of Europe. Here you can find almost all kinds and forms of art, from classical sculpture of Rodin to fantastic masterpieces of Outsider art. Vienna terms, opened in late September 2010, also attracted to the city the fans of wellness.

Climate in Vienna:

The local climate is moderate, subalpine. Summers can be quite hot and long. Winters are generally cold and snowy. At all seasons, the city is dominated by windy weather. Tourist season starts in April and continues until the end of October. The best time to visit Vienna is late spring and early autumn.

Entertainment, excursions and places of interest in Vienna:

If one has stayed in Vienna and hasn’t visited the masterpiece of Gothic architecture of the 12th century - the Cathedral of St. Stephen, the St. Peter's Church, the Hofburg and Belvedere Palaces - at least has a bad taste. The State Museum of Art - one of the main treasuries of world art, the Belvedere Palace - a collection of Austrian art of the early 20th century, Schönbrunn Palace ("a beautiful castle") - the imperial residence, no less famous than Versailles or Tsarskoye Selo, the Vienna Opera, the Burgtheater also deserve attention. The city has over 80 museums.

The places that also cannot be ignored include the Imperial Chapel, the Donauturm observation tower - the highest point of the city, the Plague Column and other monuments of Vienna, the Medical History Museum with a collection of wax models of human organs, instruments for operations, etc. The Judenplatz Square is the old Jewish Quarter, famous for medieval synagogues, museums and the memorial to Austrian Jews who perished in the Holocaust, 65-meter high Ferris wheel with spectacular views of the city, the Sigmund Freud Museum situated in the apartment where he lived and worked from 1891 to 1938.

One of the modern symbols of Vienna is a dwelling house of Hundertwasser (Hundertwasserhaus), designed by an Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1983-1986. The building itself is notable for surprising "rolling" number of floors, the roof covered with earth and grass, and inside some of the rooms one can find even planted trees.

And, of course, we shouldn’t forget about the famous Museum quarter of Vienna MQ. Here, behind the facade of baroque imperial stables are hidden gray concrete cubes of modern architecture and museums: of Leopold, a collection of Austrian art of the late 19th - early 21st century and contemporary art; as well as cafes, shops and benches. Address: Museumsplatz 1.

Children and adolescents under 19 years have free entrance to the Vienna’s federal museums and municipal ones, including the Zoom Children's Museum in the Museum Quarter.
