Ubon Ratchathani - description of the city:

Ubon Ratchathani is a town in Esan region. It is one of the north-eastern province of Thailand. The city is also called just Ubon. To Bangkok from Ubon about 600 km. On the north and east Ubon province borders with Laos.

Udon Ratchathani was founded on the north part of coast of Mun river by group of fugitives heirs of one royal dynasty in the late 18th century. Nowadays, in the time of war in Vietnam the town was an US Air Force Base and sufficiently grew while that time, but after there a little has changed. Warin Chamrap village, on southern bank of the river, is considered as a suburb of Ubon now. There is a tourist office, where tourists can get an information maps of the city and surroundings on english language. In the town is also Ubon Ratchathani airport.

In Ubon not too much tourist attractions, but there are some beautiful temples to see. In the center of the city near the Town Hall is a park where is a yellow sculpture of 22 meters high, which also is considered as a symbol os Ubon and dedicated to the King. There is also the Monument of Honor and Dignity, which was erected in a memory of the Second World War prisoners of war and in memory of the kindness of the indigenous inhabitants of Ubon. The most interesting churches and temples in the city are Vat Nong Bua stele, Vat Thung Si Muang wood monastery, Vat Nong Pah Pong forest temple, and Vat Pah Nanachat is also temple in forest. In the last one tourists can learn the art of Buddhist meditation.  

In Ubon are two centers for shopping. The first one is a «D-Block» shop where tourists can by hand-made products for the garden and concrete for construction. The second one is a «National crafts and hand-made Phanchat Esan». There is a wide range of souvenirs and handmade things. The store has two branches in the city.
