San Juan - description of the city:

San Juan is a capital of Puerto Rico. It was founded by Spanish conquerors in 1521h. Today it is considered as not only the oldest city in Puerto Rico, but also as one of the first cities, which was founded by Europeans in the United States.

San Juan is a modern city with characteristic features of the American metropolis. However, over the shiny facades of new buildings perfectly traced the historical features of the Spanish heritage. The capital of Puerto Rico years was a colony of Spain more than 400 years. San Juan is divided into two parts: the old and the new. The old town looks like an outdoor museum, surprising by its unique architecture. Beyond the boundaries of the old city are located private houses and elite suburbs, as well as a luxurious resort area of Isla Verde.

San Juan and its surroundings amaze by unique flora and fauna. Coastal waters inhabited by colorful tropical fishes and crabs. Pristine by poaches coral reefs beckon divers from all over the world for its beauty. Evergreen trees and shrubs create a feeling of another world. It is home to many interesting fauna representatives, which you will not find in other perts of the world. The most interesting specimens of fauna is a Coca frog. This frog is one of the symbols of the island of Puerto Rico. Notice coca is very difficult, because even the largest of them reach a length of about 5 centimeters. However, it is not difficult to hear them.

The historic center of San Juan is the Old San Juan (Viejo San Juan). it lies in the edge of of the same name peninsula, which is washed by the waters of the Atlantic. Now it is a national historic area, which attracts many tourist. Its monuments are an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The whole center of Old San Juan is full of the buildings and structures of XVI-XVII centuries. Many of them are considered to be an unique example of a Spanish colonial style. So, Viejo San Juan boasts by its numerous fortifications and the majestic forts of San Felipe del Morro (XVI century) and San Cristobal (XVII century), as well as El Palacio de Santa Catalina.  

At the 8 km from San Juan is the largest plant in the world, which produced rum «Bacardi». There can be seen almost the entire process of manufacturing of elite alcohol and there is also can be sampled and purchased local alcohol products.
