Port Moresby

Port Moresby - description of the city:

Port Moresby is a city and urban area in Papua New Guinea, where it is the biggest of all that country’ cities as well as its capital. It is also referred to simply as Moresby, and sometimes also it is called Pom Town. The word «port» in the city’s name is not random or given without reason, as the city lies on the edge of the island of New Guinea, meeting the ocean. With a person count of over 300,000 living in this city’ it is fairly populated.

The climatic conditions of this city are both wet and dry, and take on the characteristics evident in other cities that lie within the tropical zone. The two seasons in this city (wet and dry) are evenly spaced out with each taking place over 6 months.

In the historical aspect of Papua New Guinea, this city plays a role of considerable significance. Prior to the city’s English cоlonization, the city was a central area for commerce among the islanders and indigеnous residents. Later on, the city came under British cоntrol in its imperialistic period, and further on down the line of its history, Port Moresby was transferred to the control and ruling of Australia’s governing powers. It was during the cоlonial period as well as in its independent period afterwards that this city saw much of its growth and development, bringing it into the modern world.

The city has few visitor accommodations, mainly in the form of hotels and inns. As far as the city’s transportation goes, the people of Port Moresby are served mostly by bus systems and taxis, as well as air travel over the rest of the island. One major thing that is a point of interest regarding this city is its sport presence, as its participation in the South Pacific Games is a point of pride, particularly in that this city hosted the games itself in 2015.
