Stadtische Sukkulentensammlung Introduction
The Stadtische Sukkulentensammlung is a charming little garden area, and it is composed of a large complex greenhouses, outdoor gardens, and pathways, and it houses one of the biggest collections of succulent plants. For lovers of flora, this is the place to go while you’re in Zurich. It is a charming and beautiful little landscape that was initially opened in the early 1930s, and it has more than 6,500 varieties of aloes, agaves, cacti, and succulents. Guests can look through this amazing garden all throughout the week, and admission is free.
There are almost 25,000 exhibits at this place, the world’s biggest collection of cacti and plants that are related to them.
If you take the lake road out of town, you will see a group of oversized cacti on the left, right before the Mythenquai Baths. If you look behind them, you will notice a couple of greenhouses that have a nice collection of succulents (plants that store liquids) from dry areas across the globe. There are more than 25,000 succulent plants, like “living stones”, aloe vera, agaves, and cacti here. It is a plant lover’s dream. There are succulents from several plant families at this location. The collection also has a herbarium, which is a collection of plants that are permanently preserved, and it has a seed collection with more than 10,000 samples.
