Rapperswil is a former municipality, and it has been included in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona since 2007. It is in the See-Gaster constituency in the St. Gallen canton in Switzerland, and it is located on Lake Zurich’s eastern side. It has a population of about 7,600.
The main sights in the town are mostly in the main square of Rapperswil, and you can see them while walking through the alleys of this medieval area. The biggest sights for tourists include the rose gardens, the rebuilt wooden bridge that goes to Hurden with the chapel, Rapperswil Castle, and the old remains of the fortifications built in the Middle Ages (they are located on Lake Zurich).
Rapperswil is sometimes called the “town of roses” because it always has lots of roses on display in three different parks it has. There are more than 15,000 plants, and there are 600 kinds. They can be seen from June to October. There is a rose garden in the town center as well, and it is accessible to disabled and blind people.
The Rapperswil gardens are beautiful sights to see throughout the summertime, and if you’re in Switzerland in the summer, then consider making your way on over to Rapperswil. You won’t regret it – these are some of the most gorgeous rose gardens in all of Europe.
The Ironman Switzerland and the Triathlon Challenge were both held here in 2010. The blues ‘n’ jazz festival has also been taking place here since 1998. That music festival is held here every June. Seenachtsfest is celebrated here for a week in August every three years, and it brings in more than 100,000 people. There is an amazing fireworks show at that special event, and the last it was celebrated was in 2013. Rapperswil is also where the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers are based, and the Diners Club Arena is located on the lakeshore of Obersee. You should also check out Kunst Haus while you’re here. It is a dynamic, lively, and vibrant center of Swiss contemporary art, and it is located in a former military armory. Herzbaracke is a swimming theater, restaurant, and cabaret on Lake Zurich, and it is located at differet locations, among them Rapperswil harbor and Zurich-Bellevue.
There are a lot of Swiss heritage sites of national significance in Rapperswil that include the Polish Museum and Schloss Rapperswil. There is also the town hall and the Polish national archive.
