Norsk Teknisk Museum
The subject matter of the Norsk Teknisk Museum is technology from the past and from the present. The translation of the name of the museum is Norwegian Museum for Science and Technology. The museum is located in Kjelsas and was founded in the year 1914.
Some of the exhibits found at the museum include the first steam engine of Norway. The first car from the country was imported in the year 1895 and it is on display at the museum as well. You will also be able to view the country’s first airplane.
In addition, to the larger displays, you will also find vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, as well as many other everyday objects.
The ground floor of the museum is dedicated to the industrial field. On the first floor you will find exhibits that cover communications and transport as well as information technology, and telecom technology. Here you will be able to see the development of steam power and how it transitioned into mass production.
The history of telecommunication traces back to the first warnings that were sent by beacons all the way to the development of the telegraph and then telephones to the mobile phones of today as well as the internet.
There is an exhibition that shows the oil and gas exploration from the North Sea. The display shows how the raw oil is pumped up to the surface, and how it is transported and then refined. Another display shows how paper was produced 150 years ago.
Throughout the museum there are many education exhibits as well as a science center that offers hands on activities. On weekends a number of family events take place.
