Where Is La Chaux-de-Fonds?
La Chaux-de-Fonds is a city located in Switzerland, and specifically in the Chaux-de-Fonds distriction in the Neuchatel Canton. It is situated in the mountains of Jura, and it is a few miles to the south of the border with France. After Lausanne and Geneva, it is the 3rd biggest city in the area of Romandie, which is the area of the country where people speak French. It had a population of roughly 38,000 when it was measured in 2012.
The city was established in the mid-1600s. Its prosperity and growth is mostly linked to the watch industry. It is the most significant part of the watch industry in the region, and it is called Watch Valley. It was totally burnt down by a fire in the late 1700s, but it was rebuilt along a street plan in the form of a grid, which is original among cities in Switzerland. Karl Marx described the city’s special design as a “city-factory”. La Corbusier was a very famous architect, and he was born there, as well as Louis Chevrolet and Blaise Cendrars. Louis Chevrolet was a car maker. The city is a world famous center of Art nouveau.

Sports fields, green belts, and parks make up about 1% of the area. Out of the land that is covered in forest, 24% or so of the whole land area is covered in heavy forest and about 4% is covered in little tree clusters and orchards. Out of the land that is put to use for agriculture, about 40% is for pastures.
