Where Is Kandersteg?
Kandersteg is a Swiss municipality, in the canton of Bern. It is located in the administrative district of Frutigen-Nidersimmental. The municipality is located parallel to the valley of the Kander River, to the west of the Jungfrau massif. It is noted for its amazing mountain scenery and beautiful alpine landscapes. Tourism is a major part of the economic activity of the municipality. It is an outdoor paradise for year-round activities, activities like hiking, cross-country and downhill skiing, and mountain climbing. There are lots of hiking trails, giving you plenty of options for exploring the area. It has a population of roughly 1,200 people.
There is an array of accommodation choice sin the village. There are 5-star hotels, camping areas, and holiday getaway apartments. The International Scout Centre is based in the village. Thousands of scouts from around the globe go to the site each year. There are a number of mountain huts owned by the Swiss Alpine Club that are located there.
The Kander valley has a massive network of hiking trails all the way from the floor of the valley to the passes and mountaintops. Some of the most well known routes go to the Valais canton, over the Gemini Pass and directly on to Leukerbad (there are cable cars that operate on either side) or through the Gastern valley over the Lotschen Pass and onto the Lotschental.
Lake Oeschinen is arguably the most beautiful lake in Switzerland, and you can get to it on a cablecar. There used to be a chairlift. There are other cable cars that serve Allmenalp and Sunnbuel. Seeing Lake Oeschinen is a great reason to visit Switzerland. Of course, it should just be one example of the natural scenery that you see on your journey. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Switzerland.
In the wintertime, there are more than 30 miles of cross-country skiing trails on the valley floor and higher on up. There are some ski areas that are located near Sunnbuel and Lake Oeschinen. There is a network of trails that link up the village to Blausee and Gemmi Pass. Some of the other things to do in the region include ice fishing, ice climbing, curling, and skating.
The Ricola Alpine garden is located near Kandersteg. Another attraction in the village is a parish church from the 16th century.
