Grunerlokka

The former working class district of Gr?nerlokka has undergone something of a renaissance in recent years. It is made up largely of apartment blocks dating from the end of the 19th century, which were under threat of demolition. But repeated proposals to clear the area and build afresh have finally been shelved and instead the old housing stock is being restored. Small and inadequate apartments have been combined, and units are becoming larger and fewer, but the neighbourhood still retains the character of old Oslo. As a result, people from all walks of life have been attracted to Gr?nerlokka and the area has become particularly popular among young people. With the influx of this vibrant new community, a large number of cosmopolitan shops, caf?s and restaurants thrive here, including the popular Sult.
