Phitsanulok - description of the city:

Phitsanulok is a province in Thailand on the northern part of country center. Phetchabun mountains, from which the numerous small rivers are flowing down, cross the province. On the territory of the province located at least 9 waterfalls. The local caves give the territory a fabulous mystery. In the administrative center are not any industrial enterprises.

In the times of the Khmer, Phitsanulok prospered, being the factual royal capital. The reason for this sudden glorification of the city is that in 1463 till 1487 years the king Borom Trailokanat chose it for his residence. Later the royals kept in touch with Phitsanulok. In the city was born the Naresuan the Great, due to his prowess the Burmese domination was dumped in the XVI century.

The province`s economy is in the «sensitive dependence» on fishing and agriculture. Therefore, the tourism industry plays a significant role in the local economy. But anyway, the rice is the main breadwinner of Phitsanulok, and in the province everything favored the cultivation of it. The chained into an elegant waterfront river running through the provincial capital, provides the special charm to Phitsanulok. Among the local landscape, the plains is dominated. The national parks, where are raging waterfalls are an exotic tourist attraction, are located in the city.

The main attraction of Phitsanulok is Wat Mahathat temple, which is famous by the head of Buddha statue. According the legend the head was pulled out from the land by roots of trees. I is the second esteemed statue of Buddha in Thailand. Wat Mahathat attracts pilgrims from all regions.

In the city are held extremely bright festivals. There are two festivals per year. First is during the Gregorian New Year. The second one is held in April, during the Thai New Year.
