Philadelphia

Philadelphia - description of the city:

Philadelphia has had major cultural and historical significance as a city in the United States. Even before our country was a country, Philadelphia was playing a major role in the government and politics of the Revolution and the resultant government. Philadelphia has a lot of important sights and activities that make it a great destination for people looking to expand their education of the United States, have a little laid-back fun, and explore a very unique and interesting place.

Philadelphia was the birthplace of liberty in the United States of America, yet it offers a whole lot more than historical landmarks and antiquated cobblestone streets. Ethnic, cultural, and artistic treasures are in abundance in the city and countryside.

William Penn developed the city in 1682, and he created the city to act as the capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. In the 1750s, Philadelphia had overtaken Boston as the biggest city and most highly trafficked port in British American, and it was the second busiest in the British Empire, outside of London. Throughout the American Revolution, Philadelphia played a major role as a meeting place for the country’s founders, and they signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution there. Philadelphia was one of the national’s capitals throughout the Revolutionary War, and the city acted as a temporary capital while Washington, D.C. was being developed. Throughout the 19th century, Philadelphia turned into a huge industrial center and railroad center that grew out of an influx of European immigrants.

The city is a hub of economic activity in Pennsylvania, and it is the site of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and many Fortune 500 companies.

Philadelphia is well known for its culture and arts scene. The soft pretzel and cheesesteak are emblematic of Philadelphia cuisine, which is shaped largely by the ethnic mix in the city. The city has more outdoor murals and sculptures than any other city in America, and Fairmount Park is the biggest landscaped urban park in the entire world.

Philadelphia offers a unique mix of experiences that you have to see for yourself in person. You can learn about all of the history and architecture that has spanned more than four centuries in Philadelphia. There are endless shopping experiences, amazing museum collections, and beautiful neighborhoods. Once the sun goes down, the city starts to heat up with an awesome nightlife, incredible dining, and award-winning performing arts.

Philadelphia is home to several national historical sites that are associated with the founding of the United States. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and the homes of notable people like Betsy Ross and Edgar Allan Poe, are also highly visited sites.

The city has several art museums, too. The city is home to the Rodin Museum and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Philadelphia Museum of  Art is one of the biggest museums in the United States.

Philadelphia has more public art than any other city in the United States.
