Pak Kret

Pak Kret - description of the city:

Pak Kret is a district in the Nonthaburi province, in a center of Thailand. It is located on the north-east of Nonthaburi province. The district shares borders with Lat Lum Kaeo and Muang Pathum Thani regions, and Don Muang and Nonthaburi Muang regions of Bangbuathong province. The Chao Phraya River crosses the city. Pak Kret is a part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region megalopolis.

The Pak Kret area was established at least the 18th century, during the time of Ayutthaya Kingdom.The first the city was implied as a sanitation district on about 31 August 1955. Because the part of the Chao Phraya River on the west of Pak Kret city center was excavated. the island Ko Kret was formed.The settlements on the bank of the bypass canal and at its mouth became known as Ban Tret Noi and Ban Pak Tret Noi. A lot f attic Mon communities settled in the area during the Ayutthaya to the early Rattanakosin. The city covers the portion of Pak Kret District(on the east of the river), the areas of Pak Kret, Bang Phut, Ban Mai, Bang Talat, and Khlong Kluea Subdistrict. It was incorporated as a commune municipality on 1 January 1992, and later upgraded to town and then got city status on 5 February 1996 and 20 April 2000. Paddies and orchards of Pak Kret was being converted to housing estates and other residential areas rapidly.

In Pak Kret are not too many places for tourists to see. But anyway it has some interesting things. The first one is the Ko Kret island. In Pak Kret is a also the Mueang Thong Thani Stadium, which was built on the XIIc. for Asian Games, and after it was renamed as «Impact» stadium. In addition to sports tournaments in the «Impact» stadium some entertainment programs and exhibitions are organized. There are also another traditional tourist entreatments as a visiting the temples, many different excursions, riding elephants, a trip to the zoo, and diving.
