Oranjestad

Oranjestad - description of the city:

Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba island. It is disposed on its southern coast. The city`s name is translated from the Dutch as the «Orange City». Actually there are no any oranges, but the town itself is very colorful. All the buildings in Oranjestad are made in Dutch style and painted in different colors.

The oldest building of the city is Fort Zotman. It was built in 1796th and was named in the honor of the famous Dutch Admiral. The port is surrounded by four cannons, and stands out for its tower of King William III.

In the city a lot of churches, the most important of them is the Catholic Church of St. Anne, which was built in the early 20th century, interesting handmade oak altar, which was made before the foundation of the church in 1870th.

In Oranjestad are lots of museums-Archaeological Museum with exhibits of the history of Arawakan culture; Historical Museum with a collection of pre-Columbian history of the island and the colonial era; Numismatic Museum, part of these art coins was found on the seabed in the sunken ships; and the Geological Museum, which is telling the history of the origin of the island. In the city center can be found a huge number of shops of the famous brands of the world, prices are lower than in Europe.

From Oranjestad is very easy to reach to the beaches of the west coast. The most popular of them are Arashi Beach and Hadikurari Beach in northwest Aruba (another are Druif Beach, Bukuti Beach, the beaches of Palm Beach, Eagle Beach, Roger Beach, a small island of the Renaissance, which lies directly in front of the harbor of Oranjestad.). All of them are white sanded, which reflect the sun`s rays, and do not burn the feet even on hot days. All beaches are municipal, so tourists can relax at any of them.

Everyday from Oranjestad cruise submarine depart, that make a trip for 1 hour to the coastal waters of the western coast of Aruba. Through the huge window can be seen the coral reefs, tropical fishes, moray eels, sea turtles and seals. The submarine has a bar, and its beauty interior resembles the aircraft cabin.
