The stupa has staid many centuries, despite of numerous restructuring by Khmers and Mons. King Monogot, when he arrived there as a pilgrim, was depressed by the state of 84-meter-high stupa and ordered to rebuild it. The work ended only on 1853 during King Rama IV period. All subsequent kings of Thailand had contributed for build temples and viharns near the stupas, and now there is a very large and beautiful monastery. There is also a museum. In the 12th lunar month in the town is a festival of the monastery. Now the stupa has a height about 120m and is comparable in size and age with the largest stupa in the world, which is located in Bodnath, in Katmandu, and has a diameter about 400 meters. It is Nepalese stupa which was built around 5th century BC. Because Nakhon Pathom is not a big town the local stupa is visible from any point of it. For tourist there will be also interesting a subterranean cave temple and the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. In the city are also a large Buddhist park, one museum with a collection of old cars and planes.
