Manila - description of the city:

Manila is one of the biggest town of the Philippines. It is also a capital-metropolis of the country. The town is located on the southern Luzon coast, on the shoreline of the same name bay. Stretching for dozers of kilometers, the «Big Manila» is seen as a complex conglomerate of 7 major satellite cities and dozens of small ones, each with its own zoning and distinctive of appearance. The Spanish had founded the city in the 1571th, 24th July. The location of the town at the merger of the Pasing River in Manila Bay of the South China Sea; and was based by locals. In total, the city occupies more than 680 square meters km, and historically divided into several areas.

The history of Manila has about 500 years, counting from 1571, when the Spanish conquistador Lopez de Legazpi had founded the town. Actually, This town existed there before the coming of the conquistadors. It was a center of one of the Muslim principalities. In accordance with the traditions of that time, Legaspi had took the town from the Rajah, handed it under the authority of the Spanish King, and created the capital of the new estates there, in Spain. There was built the Intramuros district, which was separated from the rest of the city by huge walls of partition, under the protections of which there were lived the Spanish settlement. Soon the Christians missionaries made Manila the center of invitation to Christianity throughout South-east Asia in 17th century.

Gradually, Manila became the spiritual, business, and state center of the region, and it also became a main stronghold of the Spaniards in Asia. In the times of possession of the town by Spaniards, there were built lots of palaces, sacred places, and etc. In the seventeen century the theological seminary was opened, and in the eighteens century the first education institution in Asia was built.

After severe bombing of 1945th, almost the whole city was destroyed, but the intensive renovation has restored most of the local sights. There tourists can dine in the restaurant on the street in the old Spanish style, near the walls of the ancient fort; then visit the modern glass skyscrapers and mega-malls of Makati; on the evening stroll along the waterfront promenade with cafes in local traditional style and small bars in the open air. In addition, close to the town are sliest three different dive sites.
