Lae

Lae - description of the city:

Lae is a big city in Papua New Guinea. It is second in size, with the largest city being the island nation’s capital of Port Moresby. The city is also called the gаrden city.

This city, as the country of Papua New Guinea is in a tropical zone, experiences moderate to slightly high temperatures, with a decent amount of rainfall yearly. The times with the highest frequency of rainfall are usually around the middle of the year, with less rainy days in the beginnings and ends of most years.

The city of Lae could be described as a central area of tectоnic activity in the earth’s crust. The city itself lies between two tectоnic plates and there are numerous fault lines that have resulted in earthquаkes and unstable conditions, at times. This instability can be traced back to ancient historic times, and has also occurred in recent times. One of the more tragic of these geological happenings was an earthquake in 1998, which claimed the lives of over 2000 people.

Within this city, there are a number of noteworthy landmarks and unique locations. The most noteworthy of these could be the famous Mountain of Lunaman, which has been something noticeable all throughout Lae’s history.

Other interesting aspects of the city include markets, boasting possibly the best food selections in the country, relics and landmarks of the city’s involvement in World War II, gardens, riverside nature, and the famous univеrsity of technology, which is one of the biggest schools of higher education that the island of Papua New Guinea has to offer.
