Kadoma - description of the city:
In the center of Zimbabwe, on the southern Mashonaland West province is the industrial town Kadoma. It lies on the railway, which is linking the capital Harare with Bulawayo,which is the second largest city in the country. To Harare from Kadoma about 160km. Kadoma is located on the high plains «sheltered» by savanna. Subsoil around the town are rich of deposits of gold, copper, and nickel.
This ore-bearing veins are led to the city`s founding. In 1890th there appeared a working village, where the miners of local copper mines lived. The town was named Gatuma, it was name of a local hacienda. It was town`s name till 198th year. In the 1907th Kadoma received the municipal status.
The miming industry is still the main branch of Kadoma, and the best known company there is the «Cam and Motor Mine», whose headquarters is located at 7 km from the city center, in the Eifel Flats village. «Cam and Motor Mine» company is the largest producer of gold in the history of Zimbabwe. In Kadoma is also developed the production of textiles, banking. The outskirts of the city «decorate» rural landscapes-fields and plantations. The most spectacular sights of Kadoma is the town hall with a clock on the tower.
