Kabul - description of the city:

Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan, the administrative center of the province of Kabul. The first mention of Kabul was in 2nd century A.D. The rise of the city occurred in the 10-12th centuries, during the crushing of the Arab caliphate and the emergence of the independent Muslim states. In the early 16th century, the city was the capital of the Mughal Empire’s state, in 1773/74 - 1818 – the capital of Durrani state.

Nowadays there are 700 thousand inhabitants in Kabul. It is an important transport hub, also has an international airport. The main industrial facilities include auto-repair-mechanical and pharmaceutical plants; metalworking, light and food industry. There are the University, the National Academy of Sciences, and the History and Philology Academic Museum in Kabul. Architectural monuments consist of the ancient citadel of Bala Hissar, the medieval country parks Bugi-Babur with the Shah Jahan Mosque (17th century), and others.
