Hat Yai

Hat Yai - description of the city:

Hat Yai is a town in the south of Thailand. It is located on the border with Malaysia. It is also the largest city of Songkhla province, the third largest metropolitan area of the country. Sometimes it is mistaking for being the provincial capital, whereas Hat Yai is just a business centre in the province. 

Ha t Yai was a small village with Khok Sa-Met Choon name. When the southern railway was built there, the village became an one of the major rail hubs of the line. The first, the junction, which connected the town of Songkhla with the main route, was formely in the Utapao area and later it was moved to Khok Su-Met Choon in 1922. At that time the Utapao area turned out yo be flood-prone. Due to the investments of Khun Niphat Chinnakorn the contractor for the railway line from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Pattani, the village quickly grew into a small town. 

Because of Hat Yai`s ethnic compositions there is always an atmosphere of hospitality. The locals are very friendly to foreign visitors. The city has many markets and malls, where everything for a fairly low price. The city`s wet major wet market is located near the railway station. Kim Yong market is also a popular market in the center of Hat Yai. This market was established by XI Gim Yong in 1928. In the city often arranged colorful fairs, where also a lot of things to buy. Hat Yai is considered as the main economic center of southern Thailand. The city combines paths with different tourists ways and it is like a point of intersection of the many of them. In Hat Yai a lot of interesting excursions with famous historical monuments. An important Buddhist temple is Hat Yai Nai temple or Wat Hat Yai Nai. 

Hat Yai is not only for business people. This small town, from 933 km from Bangkok, is famous by its night entertainments, plenty of bars, cafes and clubs. At night, lively streets of market stalls turn into a place of festivities. There are often held various shows and festivals.
