Fire is a leading industrial city in Albаnia, and its history is coupled with the oilfield, gas and bitumen fields, which are disposed not far from the town. The availability of the bitumen and natural gas had already been registered in the I century. This is referred to the ancient Roman and Greek military physician- Dioscoridеs, in his seminal work «About medicinal substances».

The town`s name likely derives from the Italian word «Fierа» since in XIV-XV-centuries Venetian merchants used the ares as a market, where could be bought some agricultural products from low-lying areas of Myuzekе. Fier was granted city status in 1864th, when the local governor appealed to the French architect to design the town as a market and handicraft center. Town plan is designed in accordance with the European cities of the XIX century. The main practice of the new town was the selling in agricultural products. In the 1864-1865 years the market was built along the Gyanika river.

Fier is the largest producer of natural and organic products in Albania. In the city is pleasant Mediterranean climate, due to the proximity to the sea coast and the presence of the river. 300 days of sunshine a year, mild winters and hot summers.
