Epworth

Epworth - description of the city:

Epworth is a one of the major cities of Zimbabwe, located in the north-east of the country. It is suburb of Harare, to 12 km from its center. The city stretches over the south-eastern outskirts of Harare, and is considered as a «dormitory» for the country’s main city. In Epworth is relatively high population density, and the city is crossed by important road and railway lines, which connect with Mozambique-the coast of the Indian Ocean. To the south-west of Epworth is the International Airport of Harare.

Epworth was founded in 1890th as a missionary station. The group of missionaries arrived in the area of Africa, to carry the word of God to the natives, and the influence of the Methodist community was very strong even in a hundred years. In the 80th of the last century this area was populated really fast and Methodist Church was simply not able to control the influx of people. For a long time the city was considered as an informal settlement, and only in 1986th there appeared a local council. Now faubourg of the capital is surrounded by many suburbs-small villages and farmlands. in the city are still many streets have no names, though the city is quite modern and large.

The most spectacular sights of Epworth, and Zimbabwe at all, is the Balancing Atones. It is an unique whimsical shapes of weathered igneous rocks. It seems as if they are artificially laid out, as if it is about to fall. Around Epworth are several Balancing Stones. In Epworth is also interesting to visit the dam «Cleveland», where is opportunity to fish. In the city are also golf club with excellent fields and park «Crown», where is picturesque nature.
