Chon Buri - description of the city:

Chon Buri is a province in the east part of Thailand. The closest provinces are Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi and Rayong. The province located on the Bangkok Gulf coast, at the north part of the Gulf of Thailand.

Chonburi is an administrative center. The most famous tourist town there is Pattaya, the only one province outside the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, connecting with Bangkok by eight lane motorways, 80km to northwest. The closest airport in the province is a Suvarnabhumi airport.

From northwest to southeast across the province is a chain of mountain Khao Khiao. Fertile plains in the north has been used for agricultural purposes for a long time. In Laem Chabang region is one of the few deep-water harbours of Thailand.

The Chon Buri history starts from the Ayutthaya period. The region was small town as Bang Sai, Bang Pla Soi, and Bang Phra till King Rama V combined these to Chonburi Province. 

Tourism, thriving due to the beautiful beaches and the geographical location of the province, is a very important part of local economic. There is also well-developed agriculture,grown mainly tapioca, coconut, sugar cane; and fishing in coastal areas. 

Surely, for tourists Pattaya will be the most interesting destination, but in Chon Buri are a lot of another places and towns to see such neighboring cities as Banglamung, Si Ratcha, and Muang Chonburi( Wat Yai Inthraram temple, influenced by late Ayutthaya architectureal style). In the province are also three temples in Chinese style- Wihan Thep Sathit Phra Kitti Chaloem, Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine, and Anek Kuson Sala. In Chon Buri province are also a lot of amassing temples, interesting zoos, and wonderful beaches. 

For active tourism there are Agro-tourism attractions Silver Lake Vineyard, and Ecotourism attractions Ko Kham Underwater Park.

The hill Khao Sam Muk, where is a statue of the goddess Chao Mae Sham Muk, is a main symbol of the Province.
