Cabinda - description of the city:

Cabinda is one of the major city of Angola, which history starts from 1883rd. It is the capital of the province of the same name (one of the eighteen provinces of Angola), which borders with the Republic of the Congo to the east, and with the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Cabindа is a port town with an international airport, which is fairly modern and civilized. The town is also the center of the oil industry. The climate in this region is equatorial, the average temperature of the region is about 25 degrees Celsius, and the rainy season lasts from January to April.

The main sight of this region is Mayombо Reserve, which is disposed in the north of the province: there are trees, reaching a heigh of 40-60 meters, also it`s species are high-value (e.g., black ebony, iron and sandalwood). This reserve was created for the protection of tropical forest in the Congo Basin and the preservation of the diversity of local flora and fauna on the felling of trees and poaching. It is home to elephants, rhinos, buffalos, gorillas, chimps, sloths, lots of species of rodents, rare birds such as the gray parrot, and others.

In the province can be found many religious buildings, such as the ruins of the cathedral, built in the 16th-century, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Marry Queen of Peace, St. Antony and others. The most impressive building are disposed on a hill above the Landau village( this settlement is situated about 50 kilometers from Cabindа).

The beaches of the Atlantic shore of the province of Cabinda are among the ten best beaches in Angola. The beaches are sandy and clean with warm and a little greenish water.

The town has several hotels and inns. Restaurants are situated mainly in the town center. Local cuisine is basically a variety of dishes from fish and beans, and dried beef, banana bread, and dishes of cassava.
