Bridgetown

Bridgetown - description of the city:

Bridgetown is the capital and the only city in Barbados - the easternmost island of the Caribbean Basin. Bridgetown acquired its popularity by luxury duty free shops, regular visits by cruise ships, as well as historical monuments, which turned the city into a small tropical copy of London.

Entertainment, excursions and places of interest in Bridgetown:

The Museum St. Ann's Garrison, St. Michael is on the western edge of the racecourse and is open daily from 9.00 to 17.00. Located in a former British military prison, the museum gives an opportunity of learning about the history of the island from aborigines’ times, arrival of Europeans, the period of slavery, when it was a British colony, and to the present. The cost of the ticket is of 11.5BD $.

St. Mary's Church, made in the traditions of Gregorian architecture, was built in 1827 on the site of an earlier building of the early 17th century.

Careenage is now not only a port, but also a huge complex for entertainment and nice pastime, including restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques. A walk along the embankment will take you back in time, especially when you will pass by the Gothic Parliament building and the Trafalgar Square, where the statue of Admiral Nelson is situated. Also we recommend you to visit the races. If you're lucky enough to get to Barbados Derby Day or the Barbados Gold Cup Day, you could watch the local elite and avid players.
