Aguadilla - description of the city:

Aguadilla is a resort town on the north-west part of  of Puerto Rico, on the Atlantic coast, to the north the city of Aguada and Moca. The city lies on the banks of the Kulebrinas river. Administratively Aguadilla is divided into 18 district.

San Carlos Aguadilla settlement was founded in 1770 year. In 1775th there was built a church. As an independent community Aguadilla was separated from Agualy in 1780th. After the first uprising against colonial rule on the Santo Domingo in 1776th part of the Spanish population have escaped from Puerto Rico and settled in Aguadilla, where, thanks to a convenient harbor, constantly grew local population. In 1860th, Aguadilla received city status.

In 1923-1973 years in Agyadilla was located an American air base «Ramey», where there were strategic bombers B-52. In 1973 the base was passed into the possession of the civil authorities of Puerto Rico. Later the base was turn into an international airport of Rafael Hernandez.

Erstwhile, the main occupation of residents was fishing. Now Aguadilla is a major industrial region. In the city are number of branches of banks. There was built the largest in the northwest part of island shopping mall.  An important source of income for the urban economy is the tourism business. The stunning beaches stretched along the coast of Aguadilla. In the city are three campuses of the famous in Puerto Rico universities.
